Blade Fire Coral (Millepora complanata)
Lamarck, 1816 |
Millepora complanata inhabits coral reefs in Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean at depths 1-15 m; often in areas with constant surge and/or turbid waters. Colonies are mustard-yellow or brown with an encrusting base and thin upright white-tipped blades. Polyps capture zooplankton, including copepods. M. complanata is susceptible to coral bleaching, but may recover in a few months; one of the first species to re-colonise damaged reefs.
